Life and Health

CASUS is a catastrophic accumulation model that helps users anticipate and quantify loss of life from a single event such as September 11. Instead of trying to predict where and when catastrophic events might happen, Arium considered the problem from another perspective: where and when insured people are likely to be in one place at the same time. Once we reframed the problem, we were able to find useful data and develop a deterministic model of out-of-office exposures for life and worker's compensation insurance portfolios by seeking to quantify the insured value of particular people in specific locations. These data can be used in conjunction with hazard-based catastrophic models.
